I have been asked many times by Readers how to do Bali on a budget… My family and I love to eat local food at local Warungs and often arrange for local food to be delivered.
So for those Bali Buddy followers who have requested this post… here it is!
Remembering everything I write on the Bali Buddy is our advise and opinions – we only recommend and promote where we have played, stayed, eaten and experienced.
Please note a lot of hotels and restaurants now charge 21% Tax on top of your food bill. Listed here will say + tax if the Restaurant adds tax, if it’s not listed they do not charge tax just the food bill.
Be careful Tax can often blow out your bill and your budget…
Accommodation
If you’re a large family or travelling in a large group. I would suggest a Villa for your stay in Bali $120 – $200 per night. See our listings under Accommodation or Sinar Bali Hotel starting from $55 per double per night includes Breakfast or The New Garden View Resort in Legian at $37 per double includes breakfast.
Staying in a Villa allows you to prepare some of your own food or order takeaway.
Visit the Carrefour (supermarket) on Day one and stock up on all your supply’s. You can get everything here and by buying snacks and drinks you will save yourself a small fortune.
If you love Muesli and or Cereals I would suggest bringing them from home along with vegemite, jams, peanut butter and honeys. These are all imported and expensive.
The French bakery at the Carrefour is just so, so yummy, so yummy. Try a Quiche Lorraine, Cheese and Bacon Loafs, Pies, Pizza and so much more for so little. A Single Quiche is $2.
You can also get on the spot ready-made meals -eg – Chicken Snitzel and Veg, Baked Dinners, Curry’s, for $2.80 each. So yummy!
Pizzas, Chicken, Fried Rice, Pasta, the list is endless and so cheap.

Alley Way Shack – Breakfast & Lunch
Cheap, Cheap, Cheap, Coffee opposite Puri Raja Hotel in small Gang only 200 metres walk, great Breakfast Menu and even Smashed Avocado for $4.00, Brekkie Bowls, Bacon and Egg Rolls, Juices, Milkshakes and more.
From $3.00 a meal
Bagus Warung – Lunch / Dinner
Padma Utara – just down from the Y Bar next to Legian Snacks.
A oldie but a goodie. Well priced food both Indonesian and European.
Meals start at $4.50
Bamboo Warung – Lunch and Dinner
Rum Jungle Rd (Wiekudeirra) about 200 metres on the right hand side if you’re walking down from Legian Rd.
Great Spring Rolls, Deep Fried Cauliflower, Calamari, Mie, Nasi and so much more. Huge range of Indonesian and European Foods.
From $2.50 a meal
Bali Beach Shack – Dinner
Legian Rd – Fabulous BBQ nights with great entertainment from the BBS Drag Queens…. make sure you get in early or book prior to get a good seat. Fabulous Cocktails, Try their Mega Snitzel Deal for $30 for 4 people.
Beach Warung – Lunch
Gede is the best cook. Right on Padma Beach out the front of the Mandira Hotel. Don’t miss Nasi, Mei, Garlic Chicken, Kecap Chicken, and Burgers and Fries for the kids.

Galleria Shopping Mall, Discovery Shopping Mall.
All things cakes, bread, tarts, cheap, cheap, cheap! You can feed the family lunch for $10

Kartini Warung – Lunch and Dinner
Chicken And Cashew Nut, Nasi Special, Garlic Prawn , Snapper, Steak , Spring Rolls, Satay Chicken, the menu is endless – I still haven’t tried everything.

Easy to Find – Nestled right behind All Season Hotel and right next door to the Three Brothers Hotel reception Car Park.
Legian Snacks – Lunch / Dinner
Padma Utara – just down from the Y Bar.
One of the oldest Warungs in Legian – well priced food both Indonesian and European.

Papaya Supermarket
Jalan Merta Nandi Kuta.
Sushi, French Bakery, Sandwiches, Cheap Coffee, Juices , Breads and Pastry’s.
9am till late
Sushi starts at $2.80
Sammy’s – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Padma Utara.
Opposite Total Cushion and next to Mira Leather. Best Snitzels, Cap Cay (local veg stir fry Dish), Mie, Nasi, and loads of European Choices and fabulous Cocktails and well priced Wines.

Sinar Bali Hotel – Lunch & Dinner
Padma Utara Legian – nestled behind Swiss Bell Hotel in the Gang opposite The Corner Bar.
Food is Fabulous. Cookie the Head chef worked for years on the QE 2, best club sandwich in Bali, Nasi Goreng, Tuna Steak, Chicken Satay and so much more, the menu is endless.
Meals start at $8.00 plus tax
Swiss Bell – All You Can Eat Breakfast
Padma Utara opposite The Corner Bar inside Swiss Bell Hotel.
Fabulous Buffet – all you can eat Buffet Breakfast
$6.50 per person
Tommy’s – Breakfast & Lunch – closed Sundays

Padma Utara, next to the famous Y Bar and diagonally opposite Bella Vista Bakery. My favourite is Curry Chicken, The Mie is huge, Nasi, Fried Tempe just to name a few.
